Helping Others

On a weekly basis an extracurricular activity that I am involved in is volunteering at my local EMS organization as an attendant. With the title of an attendant, I have the ability to assist both EMTs and Paramedics on ambulance calls. My skills on the ambulance range from simply taking a blood pressure to splinting a broken bone to compressions for a cardiac arrest.

The opportunity is life changing; the experiences of helping my neighborhood friends as they had a COPD exacerbation, a seizure or are in a state of cardiac arrest are forever etched into my mind. Not all fast paced or exciting calls are the ones that stay with me. The ones where the elderly are sick, or a baby has a fever have equal importance.
