World War I Propaganda

In 1914, Great Britain was a member of the Allied Powers in World War I. As a method to gain support from society, there was the implementation of British propaganda. The goal of propaganda ranged from recruitment, to boost morale and to gain supplies from the home front. Often, there was the portrayal of the war as patriotic and justified. However, it lacked the reality of what was actually going on during the war. World War I was ranked among one of the deadliest conflicts in human history. In Britain alone, there were almost 1 million deaths and over 2 million wounded. In Owen’s works, there is the discussion of how the youth and soldiers were given a falsified perception of the war. The propaganda was a method to mask the horrific bloodshed one would have to endure if drafted or have chosen to enlist.
